About Milton

Writer. Actor. Storyteller.

Milton Schorr is the author of the Exclusive Books Biography Bestseller Addict, the award-winning magical realist novel Strange Fish, and recipient of the Imbewu Best Script Award for his autobiographical play The Heroin Diaries.

An author, speaker, actor, and Narrative Director for EFC Worldwide, Africa's leading mixed martial arts promotion, his career has been shaped by a lifelong fascination with story—one of humanity's oldest tools for creating meaning and making sense of the great mystery of being alive.

A renowned actor with key roles in productions such as One Piece, Outlander, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, and Redeeming Love, his teenage years were marked by a decade-long struggle with addiction, an experience that continues to inform both his work and his commitment to recovery.

Long before Addict was written, Milton's life became the subject of the award-winning documentary Surrender, a passion project by acclaimed South African filmmaker Porteus Xandau. The award winning film would later become one of the catalysts for the memoir, bringing a deeply personal story into the public sphere.

After two decades in recovery and active involvement in 12-step fellowships, Milton finally turned his attention to a story he had never intended to tell: his own. The result was Addict, an unflinching memoir of addiction and recovery that became an Exclusive Books Biography Bestseller and opened the door to a broader public conversation.

At around the same time, Milton committed himself to a long-term novel-writing project, setting a goal of writing seven books in ten years. The first, Strange Fish, began as an attempt to understand a pivotal relationship. Initially written as autobiography, the story only found its true form when transformed into fiction. The novel went on to win the South African Independent Publishers Award for Best Novel.

Today, through books, talks and workshops, Milton continues to explore the questions that first drew him to writing: how we make sense of ourselves, how we make sense of the world, and how stories reveal the hidden meanings that shape our lives.

Explore the books, films, and conversations that have emerged from that journey.
